Susan and her team have created outstanding interiors for hotels and resorts in twenty-four states and Canada. Susan loves it when her clients call and say “we just made Trip Advisor number 1 in our market,” or when clients report that their Kirkpatrick & Associates-designed property will be receiving a design or renovation of the year award for its brand. Susan’s projects have been honored with multiple awards and have even been chosen as the filming location for the unveiling of a brand’s new marketing scheme. All of the hotels designed by Kirkpatrick & Associates are one of a kind and often inspired by the hotel’s surrounding community. Susan is an expert in product resourcing and matching the strengths of different manufacturers to the custom design needs and budget for each project.

Part of what has made Susan’s projects thrive is her ability to network with vendors and industry professionals. She has built excellent and long-standing relationships with both suppliers and individuals within brand management. These relationships help projects go smoothly, resulting in happy owners and beautiful hotels.

Great design is in the details and Susan knows that such details are not just aesthetic. The team at Kirkpatrick & Associates knows that hotel projects require hard work from start to finish. They have experience taking care of all the details – from the initial concept to the final completion. Susan oversees all phases of a project, including design, brand approval, purchasing, installation and all of the tasks in-between. The firm’s goal is to take care of this entire process so hotel owners can focus on other aspects of opening a hotel.

Susan is also an active participant in the design community. She participated in lobbying to secure protections for interior designers, which resulted in one of the first interior design licensing bills in the United States.  She served as President of the New Mexico ASID chapter and as a member of the Milliken Design Council. Outside of the design community, Susan volunteers her time to multiple causes, including The Heart Gallery, an organization that supports children in foster care. In 2017 Susan was honored with the Heart and Soul Award. Susan is passionate about both design and her community and as such, Kirkpatrick & Associates’ office is often host to continuing education events and service projects.

Susan and her husband, Ron, have raised three wonderful children. Susan’s proudest accomplishment is raising three successful children while building and maintaining a business. Her children agree that her example of hard work is part of what molded them into the people they are today.

When not working, Susan enjoys traveling to visit her children and grandchildren, spending time at the family cabin in Colorado and riding and showing her Quarter Horse, Regal Respect (more fondly known as “Buster”).
